The British Red Cross
As well as the International work which the Red Cross do. they also offer
a wide range of flexible services, providing support to vulnerable people at
a local level.
Their support services are there to offer practical assistance and, most importantly,
help them to help themselves.
They can provide pre and post-care for people facing a hospital stay, loan
equipment, offer transport assistance for those with mobility problems, administer
therapeutic care massage to help reduce stress and offer skin camouflage treatment.
Most of their services are free to the user and funded by contracts with commissioners
or donations from the public.
The Red Cross provides opportunities for partnership working with local and
statutory services in supporting people to live independently within their
community. As a volunteer organisation, it also enables people to support vulnerable
people in local communities and enhance community resilience.

Choir Wants You To Phone Home
Edinburgh Telephone Choir started life many moons ago, populated
by staff at the old telephone exchange. These days it's
open to anyone with a passion for singing. The Choir is
currently keen to recruit new members, and had this to
say:
"Are you one of those people who enjoys singing in the bath or the shower - and you reckon you sound like an opera star?!! We are looking for new members to bolster our ranks, so if you would like to join a friendly, enthusiastic group that enjoys all kinds of music from the Classics to songs from the Shows et al then get out of the bath/shower; rub yourself down; fling on your gear; grab your mobile and give us a buzz!
"Rehearsals start in September; Monday evenings 7.30-9.30pm. We look forward to hearing from you! Contact either Alastair Murray (Secretary) 0131 332 2758 or Iain Dunn (Musical Director) 0131 334 1665 for further details."
