Tiffin Cup 2007
Barrett launches nationwide curry
competition
John Barrett, Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh
West, has launched the annual nationwide search for the
best South Asian restaurant in Britain as the Tiffin Cup
2007 gets underway.
The Tiffin Cup is an annual curry competition organised
by MPs from all parties to applaud the quality of South Asian
food, and raise money for charity. This year the competition
is raising funds for the charity Paths to Success.
MPs from across the country have been asked to nominate
their favourite curry house in their constituency. Last year,
Queens Spice in South Queensferry was among the short listed
restaurants who travelled to London for a special cook-in
where the Taj Mahal in Pembrokeshire landed the top prize.
Mr Barrett invited constituents to send
in their nominations for their favourite Indian, Bangladeshi
or Pakistani restaurant in Edinburgh West.
John Barrett said:
“We are lucky to have some
excellent South Asian restaurants in Edinburgh West. With
such a prestigious award at stake, competition across the
country is sure to be as hot as the curry.
“Curry connoisseurs will be able
to enjoy outstanding cuisine and support a good cause at
the same time. I would encourage as many constituents as
possible to nominate their favourite restaurant before the
deadline closes on December 3rd.”
The Tiffin Cup is awarded every year by
the Tiffin Club of MPs, formed in 2006 by John Barrett MP,
Michael Fabricant MP and Keith Vaz MP. Nominations closed
on the 3rd December. The winner will be announced some time
in 2007.
The voting is now closed.
