Campaign to stop Post Office
closures
John Barrett has launched a major campaign
to ensure the long-term security of post offices throughout
Edinburgh.
Following hundreds of post office closures
in the UK during the last few years, the Government now admits
that up to 3,000 more post offices could close. The universal
daily collection and delivery of mail is also under threat
because of a proposal to increase competition in the postal
services market.
John Barrett has written to all post offices
in Edinburgh West, asking them to get their customers to sign
the petition. Once collected the petitions will be presented
to the Department for Trade & Industry.
You can add your name to the petition
by email using the form below.
Petition to the Secretary of State for Trade
and Industry, Patricia Hewitt MP
We, the undersigned believe post offices
provide an essential service to local communities and call
upon Consignia and the Government to take urgent action to
stop the wave of post offices closures in the UK. We call
upon the Government to ensure every home and business in the
UK continues to receive a daily delivery of mail, and to ensure
that letters can be sent at an affordable rate for the same
price of a stamp to anywhere in the UK, guaranteeing the Universal
Service Obligation.
