Barrett launches community Christmas card

John Barrett, Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West has today helped launch the 2003 'Corstorphine Fair' Christmas Card.

The card which shows the Corstorphine Hill Tower (also referred to as the Clermiston Tower) helps raise funds for Corstorphine's Community Christmas Celebrations organised by Corstorphine Fair, under the banner of Edinburgh's 'A Capital Christmas'.

The Christmas Celebrations focus around the Community Christmas Tree and over 2000 people are expected to gather over its three events.

The card which is now on sale is expected to again be a best seller and John was invited to its launch with Fair Member, Eileen McArthur (pictured below).

A spokesperson for the Fair said: "The card has become more and more popular over the last few years and we have found it is sent world wide, bringing a touch of Corstorphine in to homes as far as Australia and New Zealand. The card is on sale early, due to popular request as last International Posting Dates fastly approach."

John Barrett said: "As profits go to help fund the Community Christmas Events, it is really a worthwhile cause and the money benefits the local Community. The Tower has long been a focal point and has great historical value in the area. It is only fitting that it should feature on the card."

The card is now on sale and can also be ordered through the Fair website, www.corstorphinefair.org.uk.

Corstorphine Fair is Edinburgh's largest Community run event.

The Corstorphine Hill Tower was built in 1871, by William McFie, the then owner of Clermiston House and its estate. As an admirer of Sir Walter Scott, he built the Tower to mark the centenary of Scott's birth. To commemorate Scott's death it was then presented to the city on 1932. Standing 70 feet high there are 100 steps to the top and some spectacular views.
