Barrett supports Scout Post
John Barrett, Scottish Liberal Democrat
MP for Edinburgh West, today announced his support for this
year’s Scout
Post by allowing his constituency office to be used as one
of the 200 drop off points across the Capital.
Scout Post collections begin in Edinburgh from as early as
26th November. The scheme is now in its 21st year and over
100 groups and a team of over 2,000 people help to sort and
deliver. Over 437,000 cards were handled in 2003 and
the exercise raised almost £70,000 for local charities.
With over 200 collection points in Edinburgh, Scout Post
will deliver Christmas Cards to addresses in postcodes EH1
through
to EH17 plus EH28, EH29 and EH30 at a cost of 16p each. For
the third year running, John Barrett MP, is allowing the
use of his constituency office at Drum Brae Avenue, for people
to drop off cards for delivery.
John Barrett, who will be sending almost 1,500 Christmas
Cards through Scout Post himself, said:
“This is the fourth year I have sent my cards by Scout
Post and once again, I am amazed at the scale and skill of
the
whole operation.
“It is important to remember that Scout Post raises
a huge amount of money, not just for the Scouts but for a
number
of local charities. That is why I am delighted my office
can once again be used to play a small part in such a large
fundraising venture. I hope many of my constituents will
now use the service.”
