Edinburgh firework theft raises serious questions - Barrett
John Barrett, Scottish Liberal Democrat
Member of Parliament for Edinburgh West, today raised concerns
over news that £15,000 worth of fireworks were stolen
from an Edinburgh industrial estate.
In a statement, John Barrett MP said:
"Clearly, there are some very serious questions over
the poor security which surrounded such a large amount of
fireworks. However, even more concerning is the news that
the same container was broken into just last month. Undoubtedly,
an urgent review of security around the Peffermill Industrial
Estate is drastically needed.
"I am now very worried that so many fireworks, over 400
boxes, are being released for sale outside the usual retail
outlets, where safeguards to prevent sale to children are
not in place. One also has to also question the conditions
that the fireworks are being stored in and the impact any
unsafe storage may have."
