“No military action in Iraq without UN approval” - Barrett

John Barrett, Scottish Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West, today warned the Government not to take military action in Iraq without clear UN approval.

Mr Barrett made the call during a question to the Defence Secretary in the House of Commons today.

In a statement, John Barrett said:

"The case for military action has yet to be made. Public opinion polls, along with my post bag and feedback from constituents has confirmed to me the public hostility to any moves which are not authorised by the United Nations.

"If the Government proceed with force without UN approval, they will not only be turning its back on international law but turning its back of the clear majority of ordinary people who don't want such action taken in their name."
