Barrett to march in Anti War Rally

John Barrett, Scottish Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West, today announced that he would be taking part in the anti-war march in Glasgow on Saturday 15th February.

In a statement, John Barrett said:

" The Government has still yet to produce any evidence which convinces me that military action should be taken against Iraq. What we need instead is an extension to the weapons inspections programme, which I believe has shown to be a success in terms of containment.

" Part of my job is to represent the people who elected me to Parliament. Not one of my constituents has contacted me to say they support military action, yet hundreds have now written in calling for restraint. The poll I have been running on my website has also shown over 90% against military strikes without UN authorisation.

" This march on Saturday must show the depth of feeling held by the UK people to a Prime Minister, who at the moment, seems oblivious to the general mood of the country."
