Barrett raises awareness over high blood pressure
John Barrett, Scottish Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West, today sought to raise the awareness of high blood pressure, during the Blood Pressure Association's day visit to Westminster.
Mr Barrett got his blood pressure measured during one of the drop in centres held in Westminster Hall.
In a statement, John Barrett said:
"Lowering blood pressure has been shown to reduce the chances of strokes, heart attacks, heart failure and kidney disease in later life. That is why the campaign being run by the Blood Pressure Association to raise public awareness of high blood pressure is so important.
"Although it can't normally be cured, blood pressure is very easily treated. However, keeping your weight down, eating more healthy foods like fruit and vegetables, cutting down on salt intake and taking regular exercise are just some ways of reducing the chances of getting high blood pressure in the first place.
"I am delighted to support the Blood Pressure Association in their efforts and am even more pleased to have received a clean bill of health from them during my visit today!"
