Barrett supports Corstorphine Christmas ‘switch on’

John Barrett, Scottish Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West, will be taking part in the annual Corstorphine Christmas 'switch on' in his constituency.

The event, which is run by the Corstorphine Fair Committee under the banner of Edinburgh's "A Capital Christmas", will mark the beginning of the Christmas festivities in Corstorphine. Other events planned include a Torchlight Procession and Family Hogmanay Celebrations.

In a statement, John Barrett said:

"I am delighted to be able to support the event which gets bigger and bigger every year.

"As someone who has lived in Corstorphine for many years and whose daughter grew up in the community, I know the switch-on often acts as the focal point for local people in the run up to Christmas day. It is the ideal way for families and young and old alike to kick off their Christmas celebrations!"

The ' Switch on ' will take place tomorrow, Thursday, 5th December 2002, at 6.30pm on the Village Green, outside the Old Parish Church on Corstorphine High Street.

This year's event will feature Christmas Carols, Craigmount High School's Wind Band and Choir, the switching on of the tree lights, the Christmas Parade and a special visit from Santa Claus on his sleigh.
