Barrett demands answers on Edinburgh ‘terror flights’

John Barrett, Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West, today demanded Tony Blair come clean on the issue of so-called ‘rendition flights’.

Mr Barrett used a parliamentary debate on UK Foreign Policy to question the government on its failure to properly explain the situation.

Few now doubt that UK airports have been used for rendition flights although the government is still refusing to confirm this or give any details of which airports have been used.

Speaking after the debate, John Barrett said:

“Tony Blair stated yesterday at Prime Ministers question time that these CIA flights contained detainees who were ‘highly dangerous’. What I want to know is exactly how many of these highly dangerous people have been landing at Edinburgh airport?

“A number of constituents have contacted me expressing their concerns. They deserve to know the facts.

“People have a right to know what security measures were in place and what provisions have been made if the flights were delayed because of bad weather or technical problems. I have written to the Prime Minister today demanding answers to these questions.”
