Barrett secures space for awareness raising TB exhibition

John Barrett, Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West, has today welcomed news that he has secured the right to host a parliamentary exhibition on the impact of tuberculosis (TB) throughout the world.

Mr Barrett has been a long-time supporter of the battle against TB, a disease once again on the rise. The exhibition, taking place in the Houses of Parliament, will feature work from renowned TB photographer Garry Hampton.

Earlier this month Mr Barrett launched a parliamentary motion recognising the achievements of Edinburgh’s own TB pioneer John Crofton. The motion has attracted considerable attention and cross-party support from MPs.

John Barrett said:

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to do my bit to help raise awareness of the plight of TB sufferers across the world. It is intolerable that 5000 people still die from TB every day despite it being both preventable and curable.

“With the incidence of TB again on the increase, it is more crucial than ever that this issue does not slip off the political agenda. I hope that this exhibition will help raise the profile of the battle against TB in the run up to world TB day on March 24th.

Notes

John has secured a parliamentary exhibition in the Upper Waiting Hall in Westminster. The exhibition will comprise a photographic presentation by renowned TB photographer Garry Hampton. The exhibition will be launched in the run up to World TB day on the 24th March.
