Banks cannot continue to hold the taxpayer at ransom
Commenting on reports that RBS Directors may resign if the Chancellor of the Exchequer were to block £1.5bn in banker’s bonuses, Edinburgh West MP John Barrett said:
“I would welcome their resignations, as we cannot continue to have the banks hold the taxpayers at ransom.
“The bankers seem to have a very short memory that it was the tax payer who bailed them out in their time of crisis, saving many of their jobs.
“As a state run bank, the Government must finally take control and ensure that both its pay and lending practices are in the public interest.”
