Barrett calls for immediate opening of aid channels in Gaza

John Barrett, Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West, has called on the Israeli Government to immediately open the borders to Gaza to allow much needed aid into the city.

Speaking in a Westminster debate Mr Barrett said:

“While the fighting was officially between Israel and Hamas, it was the civilians of Gaza who bore the brunt of the conflict, with 412 children and 100 women killed and 5,450 people wounded.

“The conflict in Gaza was intensely political - but there must not now be political preconditions on the alleviation of suffering.

“We need to see all border crossings opened for essential aid relief if Gaza is to recover. Without this, any attempts to help Gazans’ rebuild their lives will be impossible.”
