Barrett slams Government over SFO ruling

John Barrett, MP for Edinbrugh West, today slammed the Government for failing to uphold Britians democratic and legal principles after the High Court found that the decision to end an investigation into alleged corruption in arms deals at BAE Systems was ‘unlawful’.

Mr Barrett said:

“As someone who has been campaigning for much stronger action against bribery and corruption involving British businesses, I welcome the court’s decision today.  It is wholly unacceptable that British businesses are able to escape investigation or prosecution.”

“Throughout this whole sorry affair the Government has given the impression that the British legal system is for sale.

“By yielding so easily to the diplomatic and financial threats of the Saudi Government, Minsiters have failed in their duty to uphold our principles of democratic process and equality in the eyes of the law.”
