UK troop withdrawals from Iraq

Commenting on the announcement that half of UK troops in Iraq will be withdrawn by Christmas, John Barrett, MP for Edinburgh West, said:

“The Liberal Democrats have been calling for a phased withdrawal of British troops for many months. While I welcome moves in this direction, this will be the beginning of a very dangerous phase for our troops and hopefully we will be able to avoid further casualties before they return.

“As Tony Blair prepares to leave Downing Street and our troops prepare to leave Iraq, his main legacy will be the chaos that has been left behind in Iraq.”
