Barrett calls for Iraq inquiry

John Barrett, Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West, today called for an inquiry into the Iraq war ahead of a key vote in parliament today.

Mr Barrett will be voting for an inquiry into the Iraq war and its aftermath.

John Barrett said:

“I have been opposed to the Iraq war from the outset. The Government took us into the conflict on a flawed prospectus and the failure to plan for the reconstruction of the country after the conflict has been clear for all to see.

“Our soldiers have been put an impossibly difficult situation. Frankly, their commitment and bravery deserves better than this.

“In the US the failure of the current strategy has resulted in the Baker review being order by their President. No one has suggested that the conduct of the Baker review has undermined the efforts of US troops. For once Tony Blair can do something positive by following George Bush’s lead and could order a full parliamentary inquiry.”
