A personal message from John Barrett MP

It was a great honour and privilege to be elected as the Member of Parliament for Edinburgh West and to have received support from all corners of the constituency. I intend to earn the trust of the constituency in the months and years ahead and will do all I can to represent the constituency at Westminster and to work on behalf of individuals and groups in Edinburgh West.

I will work with others to produce the kind of society we want our children to grow up in, a civilised society, where tolerance, kindness and fairness are guiding principles and where freedom, humanity, justice are more than words, but are goals to be worked towards with determination.

I will work in Parliament on behalf of the citizens of Edinburgh West to improve our public services whilst protecting society's most vulnerable. And while dealing with issues at home, never forgetting those, elsewhere in the world, whose problems are far worse than our own.

Many of the issues that affect our daily lives are devolved to the Scottish Parliament but much has yet to be achieved at Westminster. I aim to be an effective Member of Parliament at Westminster and will work with Margaret Smith MSP to provide an effective team working on behalf of the people of Edinburgh West.
