Gift Aid campaign with Edinburgh Zoo
Thank you to the thousands of people who sent in postcards, supporting the campaign of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland on Gift Aid.
This is an important issue as the proposals by the Chancellor to end Gift Aid claims on 'day memberships' could reduce Edinburgh Zoo's income by £500,000 a year and cost many other charities millions of pounds in lost revenue. The change will put into jeopardy much of the work these charities do and could even force some to cease operations altogether.
After meeting with staff at Edinburgh Zoo, John Barrett tabled a parliamentary motion, calling on the Government to reverse its plans. This was the motion mentioned on the postcard, Early Day Motion 727, which has now been signed by MPs from all the main parties.
